Boring Job Ramblings Since I don't have a whole lot to do, I've been journaling about the goings-on here. I thought I type it up. Maybe create some discussion. It's unnerving, really, the atmosphere of this place. We've all known for months that this period would come. Granted we thought we had awhile longer to prepare. We still knew. It seems like no one is really working to get other jobs. Even though we know we are going to lose ours. Everyone is taking it differently. Some of the more immature people are throwing tantrums now and then. Some of the veterans are laid back and cool, but not really doing much work. Our fearless leader is occasionally frantic and refuses to garner a bad rep even while the ship is sinking and it doesn't really matter anymore. She still smiles and waves in the halls like everything is keen, but when that door closes, there is stress and there is panic. It seems like the door is closed a lot these days. And so goes the downfall. Management continuing their facade that everything is okay while peons run around spreading rumors and partaking in doomstalk. Those that have chosen to relocate to another state must feel weird. They are going to join "them." THem being the bad guys. The future of our department. We're all having to deal with them now and we all see the level of compentancy. They asked us to train the new people. Bundles of our teams were sent there to teach them our jobs. They are performing from manuals that we wrote, but our jobs can not be encompassed in a manual or a three day training session. Unfortunately the only way to get good at what we do is to do it for two or three months. Management says we don't have two or three months. We have two or three weeks. It's sink or swim, but the head honcho doesn't believe in sinking. If anything sinks, it won't be her or her fault. Everything has a fall guy and for most of what is happening, the fall guy is us. If our counter-parts fail, it is our fault for not training properly. This concept is wrong on so many levels. This concept is corporate America. Paint a pretty picture and wait for people to smile at it. Once they've smiled, you can do whatever you want to the canvas because by now they are looking at something else. If they don't smile the first time, blame the artist or if you are the artist blame the paint. Blame anything but yourself. Accept no responsibility. Enough of that metaphor. Some people are cut out for corporate life. In the past, stability was a huge reason to work for a corporation. Now, stability is a good reason not to work for one. If you're into long hours and total dedication to a corporation that has no loyalty to you, it can be beneficial, but there is no garauntee. It is the exact same for any other means to make money, so why do we feed our society to these giants? These suits are millionares because of the little peons who do the work. How is it possible that so many peons are okay with that system? Oh, that's right. We're all morons who will take any job if it has a 401(k). Moo.
