Hey Misti, I thought I'd beat you to it.

I've subbed twice at our Middle School and it's so completely surreal and freaky for me to be at that school as a teacher. It's weird for me to think about the days when I was there. Terrified of getting in trouble, not knowing what the hell I was doing, passing the time with friends and eating the same damn thing everyday at lunch. I say I passed the time with friends, but I honestly only had one true and real friend there. Ya see, that's where I met Misti. I think it was in Mrs. Morris' English class. Today I was watching these two girls in class talking to each other. They had on the same types of clothes and had little rags tied to their tennis shoes. Not something that everyone else does, it's just something special that the two of them do. I tried to think back when Misti and I were in 7th grade and for the life of me, I can't remember why we started talking. I'm sure it was because of golf. I don't know. It's so bizarre to me to think back on something like that. It was such an impacting moment in my life, but I had no idea. I had no clue that this person would literally be there for me through everything. I remember being SO mean to her in middle school. I had no idea why I was mean, but I was. Then one day I thought, 'why the hell am I mean to this person who likes me and talks to me and laughs with me?' Then I stopped being mean. So, we started to develop this life long friendship at the age of 12 or 13 or however old we were. It's just so beyond me watching these kids in middle school now. They just have no idea. I had no idea. No clue that 12 or 13 years later, I would still be hanging out with that same person. We are opposites on so many levels and just when I start feeling like we don't really know each other as well as we thought, something happens to make me realize that we actually know each other more than we know.

Anyway, to Misti, I love you as if we share the same blood. You'll always be my best friend. (Husbands don't count...)

Amanda, Denton Bible is pretty cool. I liked it a lot for a little while, but when you start getting involved in all the bible studies it can get really cliqy. That's my own new word. I don't suppose you'd want to get involved in that part of it and if you did it would probably be different than my experience because mine was with all the college kids. If Tom Nelson is still preaching, he rocks hardcore. I think it's pretty huge now, so if size matters... ya know, whatevah. :)

Tay, I saw that throat singing dude on a video of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. It's even more amazing to watch him do it. For those that don't know, Tay linked to a little shortfilm thing and it has this guy doing what's called throat singing in it. Basically he can sing 3 notes at one time. Or four? I don't remember. It's a lot and it's hella cool.

Mykie, while looking at the BFleck&Tones website, I saw that they have a show in Ft. Worth this Thursday. (5/1) You should try to go and take pictures and get me a button. Right, like they sell buttons. Yeah.

I am a dork because I've been away from my home computer for a little over 24 hours, I saw how busy TsN is today, and I'm sad because I want to be at home on IRC with all of them. I am a dork.

Just a few more reasons to love The Screensavers. They're real people who really know what the internet is. And they blog. Mostly. Some need to update, but they have blogs! God bless 'em.

Subbing at Middle School isn't as bad as everyone has made it out to be. Maybe it's just because I don't mind yelling at them. They all seem to be keeping in line. That's probably because the guy I'm subbing for drop kicked a desk once to prove to them that he wasn't kidding around. I had him when I was in Middle School, but I don't remember him being scary. Maybe because I was pretty good. Anywhichway, it's not so bad.

And of course when I post that about the guitar I forget about it and change the webcam pic. Duh.

says MarissaD at 4/24/2003 04:27:00 PM

So, you may have noticed my webcam pic. If not, my mom purchased me a new guitar. Along with some benefactor that is to remain annonymous forever and ever amen. Whoever that is, thanks. It's a Taylor 305 something something. It's a little bit smaller than a regular guitar, but it sounds really good, says mom. She said if I don't learn how to play it, she's going to take it and she's serious, so that has to mean it's good. This means I'm learning to play the guitar. :) Last night we learned how to read tabs and I learned how to play Radio by Alkaline Trio. My fingers are well on their way to being calloused and I'm super excited that I'm finally going to learn how to play for real. To all my guitar friends out there: be prepared for me to drive you crazy with questions and practicing. Now it's time for lunch with the parentals.

So my bathroom just completely flooded. Not like the toilet overflowed from a full flush. More like the washing machine draining thingy didn't drain where it was supposed to, it drained into my toilet which then flooded my bathroom. And then it carried over into my bedroom a tad. So then I started cleaning it up, but it filled up the wet vac and I can't lift a wet vac full of wet, so now it's just sitting there while I'm sitting here. Very frustrating.

Not to mention my lovely fiasco with SWB. I cancelled my account with them 2 months ago yesterday and just received a bill that says if I don't pay blahblah amount, they'll cut off my service by April 11. Well, if you'll notice, it's now April 22. I technically received the bill yesterday. If you'll also notice, I cancelled the service about a week after I moved home, which was, of course, in February. The operator I talked to was cool about it all, but the DSL person she transferred me to was completely and utterly useless. It was about 5:59 when she told me that I actually needed to talk to the DSL billing department, which was closed with office hours from 8 AM to 6 PM. Bitch. Needless to say,

Tom has written a novella about .NET. It's going to take me a few days to read it while still understanding/digesting it. But it looks good so far. Go be learned.

Happy Easter (or Pascha as Avi would say.) Lent and Holy Week are coming to a close. I've learned a bit about the tradition and purpose of Lent and Holy Week and I have to say I'm a little bit better person than I was before. Even if, for now, the only reason is that I have the knowledge of something I didn't have before. That's an 'if' though. There are other reasons and they're probably not even known to me at this point. But for now, it's good to be in the know that I'm in.

/me looks around. Good, I'm glad I didn't lose anyone.... heh

IM - Etiquette

I have none. When I have a question or a statement that I have to make to a specific person, and that person is an IM away, I type my question and hit send. Apparently this is becoming a rude gesture, but I've never once thought about it like that. It's not like seeing someone in real life on the street where you would obviously say 'Oh hey there how are you?' And it's not like calling someone on the phone and as soon as they pick up they phone you just start in. No, I'm sorry, it's not like that. With instant messenging, people on both ends have the option to read the message at that moment and respond or they can wait. Yes, it's possible. In fact I hardly ever send a message expecting an answer immediately. Or even in the next hour. I normally send my question or my hello or whatever and then I close the window. I've had entire conversations with Tay over the span of 3 or 4 days. I don't mean like "How's the weather there?" 4 hours later "Oh, fine. How about there?" No. This was during the midst of the war, oh last week. Heavy conversation, sort of. Come to think of it we only sent like 3 or 4 messages. But that's not the point!!! Instant messaging isn't for polite tea talk or etiquette. If it were, I wouldn't get advertisements on it. You hear what I'm saying? Granted if I were messaging some stranger that I respected for the way they wrote their blogs, I would probably begin with something nice. People who have been on my lists for 4 years? No. I'll just say what's on my mind. Not to say I'll never send an opening message that says "Hey how are you!?" I do that too, but more than likely, that will not happen. Anyway, I didn't mean to make this a huge rant. I just find the idea of 'offensive IM etiquette' utterly ridiculous.

I stuck some images on some stuff and now you can buy them. A few people said they'd purchase stuff if I setup a Cafe Press shop, so there ya go. The prices are at the lowest they can be, so I'm not making anything off this. I'm just completely vain and think it's cool to imagine people walking around with my cartoony image on their clothes. Ha!

Today I'm substitute teaching P.E. at an elementary school. The funniest comment:
Student: "Are you in high school?"
Me: "Nope."
Student: "Are you a mom?"
Me: "Nope."
Student: *totally puzzled look* "Then what are you?"

Funny, but at the same time, a rather scary mentality for a 3rd grader.

I vaguely remember mentioning a few photo stories that I was going to put up. I'm sure I'll get to them eventually. I have a few days off next week. Mayhap I'll get bored enough to do it.

I started typing this, then I went to do something else and forgot about it. Now I don't feel like writing anymore..

It's 5 a.m. and I'm awake. I'm sure some fairies somewhere will die, directly due to this travesty. I posted the last entry a few days ago, but blogger was being selfish and wouldn't publish it. There it is now. I've been so damned busy. Mostly boring crap, but one small part of it is a neat thing I'm starting called Shoeboxes for Soldiers. Once I get the site up, I'll just link you instead of trying to describe it all now. I just don't have the energy.

A few days ago Tay linked to the infamously famous or not blogger from Baghdad and it seems like that guy has been forced to take a hiatus, for whatever reason, but, after combing through a lot of in-links from that site, I found Back to Iraq, which is supposedly a guy who used to be a semi-big reporter here in the States, and who returned to Iraq not so long ago to try to report unbiased about the war. With some handy intarweb phone tool thingy. Now, I know that cellular technology has the "capability" of connecting from anywhere in the world, but it's not easy like, 'ok I'll just take my handy dandy communicator, Bluetooth enabled, of course, and I'll head to Iraq and connect and send stories! Easy!' No, it doesn't work like that at all. So I don't know what fancy shmancy equipment this guy is supposedly using, but I know fo' sheezy that there isn't anything you can buy in the States and probably not anywhere else, that will just magically work in the middle east. It's a lot more complicated than that.

But it's still a semi-interesting read, sort of.

[edit] - I just reread this entry, and I know it's filled to the brim with run-on sentences. Frankly, I don't care. It's 5 f'in a.m.
